Students from Uganda may apply for a variety of awards to complete a Masters degree program in a variety of locations around the world.

We’ve put together a detailed list of master’s scholarships open to Ugandan students studying in a number of countries in this article.

These scholarship programmes are designed to sponsor, support and help ameliorate certain burdening expenditures associated with abroad study.

The scholarships mentioned here are designed especially for Ugandan students as well as other foreign students who may be interested in master’s scholarships. Some of the scholarship programs are entirely funded, and others are open to well-intentioned partial recipients.

VLIR-UOS Oceans and Lakes masters Scholarship  for developing countries

The Ocean and Lakes Scholarship Programme is an educational sponsorship program offered by a network of three universities in Belgium; Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB, Free University of Brussel), Universiteit Antwerp (University of Antwerp), and Universiteit Gent (University of Ghent). This network of universities provide their students with the basic and core knowledge needed to foster scientific research and management of maritime and lacustrine systems.

The programme employs a multifaceted approach that addresses physical, chemical, geological, ecological and societal aspects and as well nature and sustainable development. The major goal for this program is to enable students and candidates from Uganda and other developing countries to build capacity, amass knowledge, and also gain the necessary experiences required for sustainable development in their home countries.

Host/Eligible Nationality: 

VLIR-UOS scholarships are usually hosted by a network of universities in Belgium in collaboration with the Belgian government. This scholarship opportunity is specifically available to Ugandan students and may also be available to other developing countries in Africa and around the world.

Level/Field of study:

The programme is not for students who are yet to pursue or are currently pursuing an undergraduate programme. It is for those have already acquired a Bachelors degree and are set to pursue a masters programme. This programme is a master’s level programme.

Worth of scholarship:

This programme is an all-expense-paid programme. It covers the full expenses of the student within the time of the programme.

Application Deadline:

The application window closes on 28th February Annually.

The government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme

The Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship Programme is an established national initiative, funded by the Department of Education and Skills and managed by the Council. It is unique in the Irish research landscape and complements other channels for funding postgraduate education in the Irish eco-system.

Hosted/Eligible Nationality:

This programme is a masters programme, hosted and taken in Ireland and it is open to international students. Students from Uganda are eligible to apply.

Scholarship worth:

  • A stipend of €10,000 per annum
  • A contribution to fees, including non-EU fees, up to a maximum of €5,750 per annum
  • Eligible direct research expenses of €2,250 per annum

Rotary Yoneyama Foundation Undergraduate, Masters and Ph.D. Scholarships 

Another masters scholarships for Ugandan students abroad is the Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Foundation. Rotary Clubs in Japan through the Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Foundation is offering scholarships for overseas students to undertake undergraduate, masters and doctoral studies at a Japanese university or graduate school.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

This is a master scholarship for Ugandan students taken at the Japanese Universities and Graduate Schools. It is open to students from Uganda and other international students.

Field of study:

Worth of Scholarship:

  • Undergraduates: 100,000 yen per month
  • Masters students: 140,000 yen per month
  • Doctoral students: 140,000 yen per month

Science @ Leuven Masters Scholarships for International students

Applications are currently ongoing for the Science@Leuven Scholarship 2020 for International students in Belgium. The scholarship is designed for Ugandan and other international students pursuing their master’s degree programme in the universities.

Scholarship worth:

The scholarship is worth up to 10,000 Euro for one year.

Hasselt University Masters Scholarship Programme

The Hasselt University Masters Scholarship programme is one of the numerous master’s scholarships for Ugandan students abroad. It is one of VLIR-UOS scholarship programmes available to Ugandan students and may be available to other developing countries in Africa too.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

This scholarship is hosted and taken in Belgium. Students resident in Uganda and other developing countries in Africa and around the world can apply for this opportunity.

Level:

Only masters students can apply for this opportunity.

Worth of scholarship:

This scholarship covers:

  • Accommodation and family allowance of about 1150 Euros every month.
  • Several one-time payments
  • Insurance, international travel and tuition fee

Trent University’s International Global Citizen Scholarships and Awards in Canada

Host/Eligible Nationality:

This is one of the masters’ scholarships for Ugandan students abroad. It is provided by Trent University Canada. It is open to students from every part of the world. Including students from Uganda.

Level/Field of Study:

This scholarship is available to Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students in all subjects offered by Trent University.

Scholarship worth:

The scholarship is a Partial Funding ranging from $2,000 to $22,000 each academic year.

Application Deadline:

The application window closes around 15th February every year.


Graduate Fellowships 2020

The Graduate Fellowships is offered by the Simon Fraser University. Simon Fraser University, commonly referred to as SFU, is a public research university in British Columbia, Canada with campuses in Burnaby, Vancouver, and Surrey.

Level/Field of study:

It is available to Masters and Doctoral students in the field of Any subject offered in the University.

Scholarship worth:

This is a Fully- Funded scholarship and it is worth $6,500.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

The scholarship is provided by the University of Alberta Canada and is available to Uganda students and other international students.

Level/Field of study:

This scholarship is available to Masters and Ph.D. degree students in all subjects offered by the university.

Scholarship worth:

The value is Partial Funding of $17,000 for 12 months and non-instructional fees.

The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Scholarships

The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant, 2021 is offered for Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. degree in the field of Arts (painting, drawing, sculpture or printmaking).

Host/Eligible Nationality:

The scholarship is hosted in Canada by Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation and it is available to Ugandan students and other international students.

Field of study:

It is available to students in the field of Arts (painting, drawing, sculpture or printmaking).

Scholarship worth:

This scholarship is a Partially Funded programme and is worth CAD $15,000 to CAD $18,000.

Anhui Government Scholarships for International Students in China

Applications have been invited for the Anhui Government Scholarships for International Students in China, 2021. This is another top-paying Masters scholarship for Ugandan students abroad.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

This scholarship is hosted in China and it is Open to international students. Students from Uganda are eligible.

Field of study:

It is offered for Bachelors, Masters, Ph.D. degree in any course offered by the chosen university.

Worth of Scholarship:

The scholarship covers:

  • 50,000 YUAN/year  (Doctoral)
  • 20,000 YUAN/year  (Bachelors)
  • 30,000 Yuan//year  (Masters)

Sichuan Provincial Government Scholarships in China

Sichuan Provincial Government Scholarships in China, 2020 is offered for High/Secondary School, Bachelors, Masters, a Ph.D. degree in the field of Courses offered at the University.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

This scholarship is provided by the Government of China. The scholarship is open to all nationals including students from Uganda.

Field of study:

No particular field of study is specified

Scholarship worth:

The worth of this scholarship is Partial Funding. It covers an amount up to RMB 30000 depending on the course taken.

N/B: The applications for Sichuan Provincial Government Scholarships in China, 2021 are accepted between January and June yearly.

Application Deadline:

The application window spans between January and June every year.


Gordon Signy Fellowships 2021

Gordon Signy Fellowships 2020 is offered for Bachelors, Masters, Ph.D., Post Doc degree in the field of Pathology. Gordon Signy Fellowship is another Master scholarship for Ugandan students abroad.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

This scholarship is provided by the World Association of pathology and laboratory medicine. Students from Uganda are eligible to apply.

Field of study:

It is offered in the field of pathology and laboratory medicine.

Scholarship worth:

It is worth $5,000 for the whole program.

Application Deadline:

The application window closes on 30th June 2021.


Laval University’s Hydro-Québec admission scholarship in Canada, 

Host/Eligible Nationality:

The scholarship is provided by Laval University Canada and is available to international students. Students from Uganda are eligible to apply.

Level/Field of Study:

This scholarship is available to Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Diploma degree students in selected courses offered at the University.

Scholarship worth:

This is a Partially Funded programme ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.

Application Deadline:

The application spans throughout the whole year.


Confucius Institute Scholarship at East China Normal University in China

Confucius Institute Scholarship at East China Normal University in China, 2020 is offered for Bachelors, Masters, Ph.D., Diploma, Training & Short courses degree in the field of Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

This scholarship is provided by Confucius Institute, offered at the East China Normal University in China. It is open for non-Chinese citizens. Students from Uganda are eligible.

Scholarship worth:

The worth is Full Funding, Full Tuition fee + accommodations + expenses + medical insurance.

Application Deadline:

The application window closes April 20th for July session, May 20th for September session, September 20th for December session and November 20th for March 2021 session.


Thailand International Postgraduate Scholarship and Training Program

As part of bilateral and triangular development cooperation projects, the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) offers over 700 training fellowships and 70 postgraduate scholarships for government officials from developing countries around the world through Annual International Training Course (AITC) and Thailand International Postgraduate Programme (TIPP).

Host/Eligible Nationality:

This is a masters programme which is to be taken in Thailand and it is available to students from Uganda and other Countries.

Fields of Study:

Students whose course of study relates to the following can apply: Food Security, Climate Change, Public Health, other topics related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and “Sufficiency Economy Philosophy” or SEP

Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership Scholarships in Canada

The Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership is awarding a number of about 10 scholarships to students wanting to pursue a masters degree in sustainable energy development in a University of Canada.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

The scholarship is another masters scholarship for Ugandan students in Canada provided by Global Sustainable Electricity Partnerships.

Scholarship worth:

The value of this scholarship is Partial Funding, Up to $23,000 per year. This scholarship is open for citizens from developing countries.

VLIR-OUS Masters (ICP) and Training Scholarships by Belgium government for African and developing countries

VLIR-UOS offers masters scholarships to students from Uganda and other developing countries in Africa and around the world so they can pursue a training and master’s programme in Belgium. Annually, VLIR-UOS awards about 150-180 scholarships to fresh master’s students and about 70 scholarships to training participants. These scholarships have been known to cover all related expenses. The master’s programmes which normally last for about one to two academic years have been designed to focus on specific problems and real needs of developing countries.

The programmes are designed to empower the students to share and apply the acquired knowledge in their home institution and country.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

This scholarship is hosted in Belgium by the VLIR-UOS commission in collaboration with other host universities. The VLIR-UOS masters and training scholarship is open to residents and nationals of Uganda. This one is particularly for you. And you don’t want to let it slip off your hands.

Worth of scholarship:

The VLIR-UOS master’s scholarships and training scholarship is a fully-funded scholarship. It covers all related expenses.

Master Mind Scholarship for International students, Vrije Universiteit Brussel Belgium

Applications are currently open for the 2020 Master Mind Scholarships Fellowship Programme for Excellent Students. It is a scholarship programme offered by the Flemish government aiming to promote the internationalization of the Flemish higher education.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

It is hosted in Belgium. Ugandan students are very eligible to apply. Also, students from some other developing countries around the world may be eligible to apply too.

Level:

This programme is only available for master students.

Worth of scholarship:

This scholarship covers:

  • The tuition fee which is limited to the amount paid by Flemish scholarship student and for the duration of the programme.

York University’s VISTA Masters Scholarships Canada

Host/Eligible Nationality:

Hosted in Canada

Level/Field of study:

This scholarship is available to Master’s degree students in all subjects offered at the University. The scholarship is provided by York University.

Scholarship worth:

The value is Partial Funding of CAD 10,000 every year for two years.

It is open to students from every part of the world. The deadline for applying varies

according to the period of application.

Application Deadline:

The application window closes around 31st January every year for the early competition stage and March 15th for the late competition stage.


KU Leuven Masters Scholarships for students from developing countries

Applications have been invited by the Katholieke University for students residing and nationalizing in Uganda and other developing countries. This is in efforts to foster and advance sustainable development in their country of origin. This scholarship is usually available to only 12 participants yearly and lasts for a period of 1 to 2 years.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

It is hosted and taken at the Katholieke University Belgium. Students who are residents and nationals of Uganda are eligible to apply. Other developing countries may also be eligible.

Level:

This scholarship is only available to masters students.

Worth of scholarship:

This is a fully-funded scholarship as it covers the full duration of the programme.

Flemish Ministry of Education Scholarships, University of Antwerp

The Flemish Ministry of Education Scholarships, provided and offered by the University of Antwerp, Belgium. It is a Master Mind program hosted by Belgium and made available international students which also aims to promote Flanders and Brussels as a top study destination. Be it as it may, prospective students and applicants must have a good knowledge of the English language and a high standard of academic performance.

Host/Eligible Nationality:

This scholarship is one of the Belgium masters sponsorship programs available to Ugandan students and other international students who are already enrolled in a preparatory program in order to start a Master’s program in September 2020.

The SusDev Masters Scholarships have been specially designed to fund and empower students who desire to make milestone impacts in their communities.
