Overseas postgraduate scholarship program PTDF. 2022/2023

 

Under its PTDF Overseas Scholarship Scheme, the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), a Federal Government agency tasked with developing indigenous human capacity and petroleum technology to meet the needs of the oil and gas industry, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for Overseas MSc and PhD scholarships to specific programs at selected institutions for the 2022/2023 academic session.

 

The scheme was created to provide candidates with access to a diverse body of information as well as facilities provided by world-class institutions all around the world. Candidates are invited to apply for specific programs at partner institutions through the PTDF. The award includes flight tickets, health insurance, tuition and bench fees (where applicable), as well as allowances to cover the costs of housing and living expenses.

 

Applications for the 2022/2023 award will be confined to PTDF partner universities in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia, where it is believed that the scholarship’s high standards can be maintained and the scheme’s objectives can be best met (full list of sponsored courses is available on the PTDF website: www.ptdf.gov.ng ).

Criteria, Requirements, and the Selection Process

Scholarships from the PTDF are highly competitive, and only those who excel in all areas are chosen.

The top applicants for each category from each state will be asked for an interview based on their qualifications, and a selection committee will be formed to evaluate applications using the following criteria:

  • Academic merit as evidenced by quality of degrees, full academic transcripts and other professional qualifications acquired
  • Relevant publications to be referenced by applicant (PhD applicants only)
  • Membership of professional bodies
  • The viability of the study/research plan

Requirements

  1. MSc
  2. A minimum of Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in their first degree or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience
  3. Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
  4. Must be computer literate
  5. Possession of 5 O/level credits including English Language and Mathematics.
  6. Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) stating the reason(s) for the proposed study, its relevance to the industry and its expected impact on national development.
  7. PhD
  8. Must have completed the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC)
  9. Must be computer literate
  10. A minimum of Second Class Lower (2.2) in their first degree and a good second-degree certificate
  11. A research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (of not more than 5 pages) to include: Topic, introduction, objective, methodology and mode of data collection
  12. All lecturers must produce a letter from their Vice Chancellor confirming that they are not in receipt of any other scholarships

Required Documents

Applicants are advised to scan copies of the following documents and attach to their online application forms:

  1. First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result
  2. NYSC discharge certificate
  3. WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results as well as thePIN numbers on the application forms to enable PTDF view the O’level results on the relevant website).
  4. Recent Passport Photograph
  5. Local Government Identification Letter
  6. Master’s Degree Certificate (PhD Applicants only)
  7. Evidence of membership of professional associations

*Candidates who successfully scale through the first round of screening will be requested to submit their transcripts; all applicants are therefore advised to prepare their transcripts for submission in anticipation of such a request.
